About Our Programmes.
6 questions · 2 min readWhich programme is right for my child?
It depends on which exam paper your child is weakest in. We offer four specialist programmes:
- Elite Writers — O-Level Paper 1 (essays)
- Compre Conquerors — O-Level Paper 2 (comprehension)
- Essay Architects — A-Level GP Paper 1
- Compre Commandos — A-Level GP Paper 2
Most students benefit most from joining both Paper 1 and Paper 2 programmes for their level (15% bundle discount applies). If unsure, book a free trial class and we'll diagnose the specific gap.
What is the Brain Jack Method™?
Brain Jack Method™ is Ms Shiny's proprietary coaching framework developed over 10 years of teaching Singapore students. It combines cognitive psychology (memory, attention, deliberate practice) with writing-specific techniques to produce grade-band jumps that conventional tuition can't match.
Every one of our programmes is built on this foundation. Read the full Brain Jack page for a deeper dive.
What is Pocket Cloud (pCloud)?
pCloud is our flagship digital resource library — 28 essay themes with 500+ ready-to-use ideas, 100+ annotated model paragraphs, and video walkthroughs from Ms Shiny. It's a self-paced tool rather than live coaching.
pCloud is ideal as a supplement to live classes or for self-motivated students who want to self-study. One-time S$299 lifetime access. Full details here.
What are your holiday bootcamps?
Bootcamps are 4-day intensives held during Singapore's school holidays (June and November). Each covers one specific skill (e.g. argumentative essays, AQ mastery) with 12 hours of live coaching, same-day marking, and a personalised roadmap.
Ideal for students who want a concentrated grade-band jump during breaks. See June 2026 intakes.
Do you teach N-Level students?
Yes. Both N(A) and N(T) students preparing for N-Level English are welcome in Elite Writers and Compre Conquerors. Our frameworks apply — and N-Level students often benefit most from structured coaching.
Can my child attend 1:1 private coaching?
Yes. Every programme offers a 1:1 private coaching option alongside small-group classes. 1:1 typically produces the fastest results (6–8 weeks for a grade-band jump) and is fully personalised to your child's weaknesses.
1:1 pricing: S$850/month for O-Level, S$950/month for A-Level (4 sessions monthly).
Pricing & Payment.
5 questions · 2 min readHow much do your programmes cost?
Our standard monthly pricing (4 sessions per month):
- O-Level Small Group (Elite Writers, Compre Conquerors) — S$480/month
- O-Level 1:1 Private — S$850/month
- A-Level Small Group (Essay Architects, Compre Commandos) — S$560/month
- A-Level 1:1 Private — S$950/month
- Pocket Cloud (pCloud) — S$299 one-time (lifetime access)
All fees are in Singapore Dollars. GST-exempt.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes — three main discounts:
- Paper 1 + Paper 2 Bundle — 15% off when enrolling in both Elite Writers + Compre Conquerors (or Essay Architects + Compre Commandos)
- Sibling Discount — 15% off the second sibling's fees
- Bootcamp Early-Bird — Save S$70–$90 when you confirm before 15 May (June intakes)
Discounts don't stack. The largest applicable discount is applied.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept PayNow, bank transfer, Stripe (credit/debit card), and PayPal. Monthly billing is the default for programmes, with payment due at the start of each month. Bootcamps and pCloud are one-time payments.
Is there a registration fee?
No. No registration fees, no deposits, no hidden charges. You pay only the monthly programme fee, which includes all materials, marking, and support.
What's your refund policy?
Our policies vary by format:
- Monthly programmes — Cancel anytime. No refunds on already-started months, but no long-term contracts either.
- Bootcamps — Full refund if cancelled 14+ days before. 50% refund 7–13 days before. No refund within 7 days (but free transfer to a future bootcamp).
- Pocket Cloud — 7-day money-back guarantee from purchase date. No questions asked.
Trial & Enrolment.
6 questions · 2 min readDo you offer a trial class?
Yes. We offer three trial formats:
- Small Group Trial (free, 45 min) — Sit in on a live class
- 1:1 Private Trial (S$80, 60 min) — Personal diagnostic session with Ms Shiny
- Virtual Consultation (free, 30 min) — Zoom call, no trial class, pure strategy discussion
How do I enrol my child?
Four steps:
- WhatsApp or message us to express interest
- We send a short onboarding form (child's level, weaknesses, schedule)
- Attend a trial class (free or S$80 depending on format)
- Confirm enrolment and receive your first-month schedule + welcome pack
Typical timeline: 3–7 days from first message to first class.
When do new intakes start?
Programmes run on rolling intakes every term — January, April, July, and October. However, students can join at any point in the term; our small-group classes are designed to accommodate mid-term entry through personalised catch-up.
Bootcamps have fixed dates — June and November.
Are there entry requirements or tests?
No entrance tests. We accept students across the grade spectrum — from students struggling with C/D to those pushing for A1. The trial class itself serves as a diagnostic to ensure the programme fits.
Can my child attend classes from overseas?
Yes. All our classes run on Zoom (with optional in-person attendance for Singapore-based families). Overseas students — especially Singaporean families abroad — are very welcome. We currently coach students in Australia, UK, USA, and across Asia.
What if my child doesn't like the first class?
That's why we offer trials. If the trial class doesn't feel right, don't enrol — we'd rather you find the correct fit than force a mismatch. If you've already enrolled and want to cancel within the first month, we refund the unused sessions pro-rata.
About The Classes.
5 questions · 2 min readHow big are the small-group classes?
O-Level small groups: maximum 8 students per class. A-Level GP small groups: maximum 6 students. We keep classes intentionally small so Ms Shiny can personally mark every student's essays and give individualised feedback — not possible in 20+ student centres.
Are classes online or in-person?
Both options available. Most classes run on Zoom (camera-on, interactive format). Singapore-based families can opt for in-person sessions at our study space in central Singapore. Hybrid attendance is also possible — switch between online and in-person as your schedule demands.
What happens if my child misses a class?
All classes are recorded. If your child misses a session due to illness or unavoidable conflict, they receive the recording within 24 hours plus a 30-minute 1:1 catch-up session if needed. We don't penalise missed classes — life happens.
How much homework is there?
Expect 1 essay per week (approximately 60–90 minutes of work). We deliberately keep homework manageable — deep practice matters more than volume. Every essay is marked in detail by Ms Shiny and returned within 5 days.
Can I sit in on my child's classes?
Yes, for the first class. After that, we encourage parents to step back — children learn more when not being observed. We send weekly progress notes and host quarterly parent-teacher Zoom check-ins so you stay fully informed without crowding the classroom.
Results & Expectations.
4 questions · 2 min readHow fast can I expect results?
Typical timelines:
- Measurable improvement — 4–6 weeks (visible in marked essays)
- One grade-band jump — 8–12 weeks (e.g. B3 → A2)
- Two grade-band jump — 12–16 weeks (our specialty)
1:1 private coaching typically halves these timelines. Bootcamps produce sharp but focused improvements (usually in one specific skill).
Do you guarantee grade improvements?
No ethical tutor can guarantee grades — outcomes depend on the student's effort, consistency, and engagement. What we do guarantee: personal marking on every essay, a personalised roadmap, and transparent weekly progress tracking. If effort is there, results follow.
Our track record speaks for itself: 100+ grade-band jumps across 10 years, verified by student testimonials.
What if my child doesn't improve?
First: we diagnose why. Often the issue is engagement, external stress, or misalignment with the programme format. Ms Shiny schedules a parent conversation, and we adjust — sometimes shifting the child to 1:1, sometimes pausing to reassess motivation.
If after honest adjustment the programme still isn't working, we'll recommend that you move on. We'd rather lose a student than keep one who's not progressing.
Can I see testimonials or case studies?
Yes — extensively. Visit our Testimonials, Before & After Results, and Google Reviews pages. Every case study includes the student's name, school, starting grade, and ending grade — fully transparent.
Scheduling & Logistics.
6 questions · 3 min readWhat days/times do classes run?
Weekday evenings (5 PM – 8 PM) and weekend mornings/afternoons (10 AM – 4 PM). Exact slots depend on your child's programme and level — we send the current schedule after trial class. 1:1 private coaching can be scheduled around your family's availability.
How long is each class?
Small-group classes: 2 hours weekly. 1:1 private sessions: 1.5 hours weekly. Bootcamps: 3 hours daily for 4 days. Parent webinars: 90 minutes + Q&A.
What tech does my child need for online classes?
Basic requirements:
- Laptop or desktop computer (tablets work but not ideal for writing)
- Webcam (cameras must be on during class)
- Stable internet connection
- Zoom installed (we send the meeting link before every class)
- Quiet study space
Where is your in-person location?
Our in-person study space is in central Singapore (exact address shared after trial booking). MRT-accessible, with private study rooms for 1:1 coaching.
Can I pause my child's enrolment during school exams?
Yes — you can pause for up to 4 weeks per term without losing your slot. We recommend staying enrolled during exams (continuity is valuable) but the pause option is always available.
How do I communicate with Ms Shiny's team between classes?
WhatsApp is the primary channel. Enrolled families get a direct WhatsApp line for essay queries, scheduling, and general questions. Responses within 24 hours (often much faster). For formal matters (refunds, pauses, etc.) email us at hello.pocketmsshiny@gmail.com.
Still have questions? Just message us.
Our team reads every message personally and replies within 24 hours. Whichever channel you prefer — WhatsApp, email, or contact form — we're one tap away.
