Compre Commandos.

A-Level Paper 2 mastery. Dissect tone, evaluate arguments, answer Application Questions with precision. Built for GP's most technical paper.

The Programme

The paper that separates A from B.

A-Level GP Paper 2 is the quiet grade-killer. Most JC students pour their energy into Paper 1 essays — and lose their A on Paper 2 comprehension. The Application Question alone carries 10 marks.

Compre Commandos is a laser-focused programme on every scoring component: tonal analysis, paraphrasing, inferential questions, and the feared AQ. We teach exactly what the A-Level marking rubric rewards — and drill your child until their answers automatically hit every scoring criterion.

Our students average a 40%+ improvement on Paper 2 by term end.

What Your Child Masters

Six A-Level skills. Precision-engineered.

Every module maps directly to a Paper 2 scoring rubric. No wasted effort, no generic drills.

Tonal Analysis

Sarcasm, irony, measured optimism, reluctant agreement — identify and articulate the author's tonal register precisely.

Strategic Paraphrasing

Not word-for-word swaps. Structural reformulation that markers recognise as genuine comprehension.

Evaluation Questions

"How far does the author justify his stance?" — a trap for most students. We train the evaluative structure that scores full marks.

The Application Question

10 marks. Make-or-break. We teach the PEEL-EAR framework that ensures every AQ covers the three scoring dimensions markers demand.

Vocabulary & Contextual Meaning

A-Level vocab questions are subtle. Most students lose marks for imprecise equivalents. We drill surgical precision.

90-Minute Pacing

Deliver a polished Paper 2 in 90 minutes with time to check AQ. Weekly timed drills until pace is automatic.

12-Week Curriculum

See the Difference

Application Question. Reimagined.

Same AQ on a passage about declining attention spans. Same student, before and after Compre Commandos.

Before · 4/10

Undercooked

"I agree with the author that social media is reducing attention spans. In Singapore, many students use TikTok for hours every day. This makes them distracted in class. The government should regulate social media more strictly to help students focus."

Generic claim. One-sided. Vague example. No critical engagement with the passage. Loses evaluation marks.

After · 9/10

Evaluated

"While the author's thesis resonates with the Singaporean experience — where MOE has formally documented a 30% decline in sustained reading among secondary students since 2020 — his prescription oversimplifies the issue. His call for parental regulation ignores a structural truth: algorithmic design, not parental oversight, is the primary driver of attentional erosion. A more honest conclusion would acknowledge that regulating platforms is strategically more effective than regulating children."

Specific evidence (MOE data). Concedes author's point. Challenges his premise. Offers nuanced alternative. Full evaluation marks.

"
"Three months before A-Levels my daughter was failing GP. We were panicking. Ms Shiny gave her a framework she could apply to any question. She walked into the exam hall calm for the first time in her life and scored an A."

Frequently Asked

Common questions, answered.

My child's AQ is weak. Will this help?

AQ is our most-requested module. Our PEEL-EAR framework takes students from 3/10 to 8+/10 within 4–6 weeks. If AQ is the weakness, this is the cure.

Do you cover the full range of passage types?

Yes — argumentative, reflective, and descriptive passages are all covered. We use Cambridge past-year papers from 2015 onwards, including 2023 and 2024 papers.

Should I take this with Essay Architects?

Strongly recommended for JC2 students. A-Level GP grade is computed across both papers — weakness in either drags the overall grade down. 15% bundle discount applies.

3 months until A-Levels. Too late?

Not too late — but go with the 1:1 intensive. Three months of weekly 1:1 coaching produces 1–2 grade jumps for most students. Start immediately.

Is there a trial class?

Yes. Free 45-minute trial session with Ms Shiny. Your child attempts a real AQ question, gets it marked live, and experiences the programme first-hand.
